Summary
Everyone knows that first year members are among the most valuable – and the most vulnerable – that you have in any organization. The question is, what can you do to assure that they will come back for those critical 2nd and 3rd years. In this session we’ll outline the steps for an effective new member intake and retention program.
Attendees will:
- get a better handle on the “value” of first year members
- see what others are doing to on-board new members
- pick up ideas for targeted first year member engagement

Mark’s years of experience in not-for-profit organizations include staff positions as a membership director, local chapter director, and chief staff officer of three organizations. In addition, he’s an active volunteer in several local, state, national, and international societies.
